Why does Jainism oppose burning Fire Crackers?

Answer

Fire crackers spread noise pollution and air pollution to extreme levels. The smoke spread by burning crackers contains Sulphur dioxide and other poisonous chemical which pose danger to asthma patients, pregnant women, heart patient. Besides, there are numerous cases of burns and fires caused due to crackers.
Crackers may give pleasure for a short period of time but it comes at the cost of enormous amount of fear caused to birds and animals.
The chemicals used in cracker production causes serious health problems to the workers. Most of the workers are child labourers, risking their lives for inferior wages. Aren’t we fuelling child labour ?
We are concerned about Global Warming, Environment, promoting Eco-friendly & child labour free products but on the other hand we are burning crackers for our short lived happiness, Aren’t we being hypocrite?
Jainism is not against happiness but it is actually concerned about everyone’s happiness from tiny living creatures to humans.

How is there infinite happiness in Moksh?

We often say that we want to get rid of all problems in our life and we want to go to Moksh. But what is the reason of infinite happiness there? Do we get a huge mansion, luxurious vehicles, exotic food, branded clothes, etc in Moksh? The answer is “No”! There are no material things there. There is no body but only SOUL. Bodily pleasures are temporary. They end after a time duration or we get bored of them after some time or we need a change. However pleasures of SOUL are permanent. For example, we do not eat, drink ,or watch TV, Mobile during sleep, still we feel Happy in sleep. But even that happiness is temporary. Happiness in Moksh is eternal and similar to sleep. We cannot explain it in words but only feel if.
Once we go to Moksh, we do not come back to this Sansar (worldly life) we get free from the cycle of birth and death.

Note: We do not believe in avatars of Tirthankars after they reach Moksh.

Why should I believe in NARAK (Hell)?

Answer

There is a limitation for punishment in this world. The maximum punishment for any crime is death . If a person kills 1 man, he will be hanged until death. If a terrorist kills 100 people, still he will only get death sentence. Many dictators across the world have even killed thousands of people!! Is a single death sentence fair punishment for everyone? Shouldn’t they receive proportionate punishments for their sins?
We have to believe that there is a place called Narak (Hell) where people have to pay for their bad deeds.

What is Jain Sadhu's contribution towards society?

Answer

A research says that an average person emits 2 Ton carbons per year in the environment.
Jain Sadhu does not use Electricity in his whole life. Imagine how much carbon emissions are saved by a Sadhu in his whole life just though his lifestyle.
According to a research, an average person uses 135 L. of water per day. On the other hand a Jain Sadhu uses less than 10 liter of water per day. In days where there is scarcity of water everywhere, you might want to SALUTE them.
Today, whole world is tensed to solve global warming problems. To fight global warming, world observes Earth hour only once a year. Jain Sadhus (Monks) observe Earth hour for their whole life !

A Sadhu does not leave the worldly life just to become eco-friendly. But these are just like a by-product grass along with the actual crop which itself is huge enough to show their contribution towards the society.
Countless lives are changed by a Sadhu’s life style and preachings. Their preachings have led to innumerable humanitarian works, donations towards animal welfare. These contributions to the society are immeasurable.

Reason behind Jains don't eat at Night

Answer:
The most important tenet of Jainism is Non-violence which extends to not harming any living being. Consuming food at night is strictly prohibited in Jainism because the microbes that disappear when there is sunlight do not really get destroyed; they take shelter in shadowy places and after the sunset, they enter and pervade the atmosphere and get into our food too. Consuming this kind of food leads to killing of these microbes. Today, even though some might believe that this extension of non-violence was applicable before the advent of electricity, certainly these microbes are invisible to our naked eye even in bright light.

Answer

In Modern Management, Motivation is an important concept. There are two types of Motivations; one is Negative Motivation and other is Positive Motivation.

Generally, in the construction or other job work contracts Incentive and Penalty clause is incorporated. If work is satisfactorily completed and it meets the expectation level, then special incentive is paid whereas if performed work does not meet the expectation level then penalty is levied.

As per Government rules, thieves are penalised, or murderers are punished. Alike Government’s court, nature also has its own Court. Only those criminals whom police could find or whose crime is proved, get punishment in Government’s court. However, in Nature’s court, nobody’s crime remains hidden. In this court, smallest crime which can be at thinking level also gets recorded and accordingly punished.

There is nothing wrong if advocate explains Government’s rule to the common man and informs related provision of punishment if those crimes are committed. Similarly, there is nothing wrong if spiritual leaders explain provisions of Nature’s Court and restrict the people in committing such crimes / sins.

Doctor informs patient that consumption of ice cream will lead to cold, pneumonia. Ayurvedic doctors tells that excess consumption of chickpeas/ pulses may lead to gastric diseases, excess consumption of spicy, fried food will lead to acidity.

Sign boards cautioning ‘Accident Zone’ installed on highways are not to scare the drivers but to caution them while driving. Driver honks the horn to warn the traffic and not to irritate the traffic. Signage available at Bungalow entrance mentioning ‘Beware of Dogs’ is not to scare the visitors, but it is to caution them.

It is common sense that ‘As you Sow, so shall you Reap’. Good deeds return in good way and bad deeds returns in bad way. But what can be termed as good deeds? The things which are not termed as bad in worldly life may be bad in Religious beliefs e.g. consumption of tuber roots or eating post sunset etc. are not prohibited in worldly life but are prohibited in religious beliefs.

Thus when religion shows restrictions, it should not be looked upon as restrictions but as protection of our Soul. It saves our Soul from punishments (Karmas).

ANSWER

1) Doctors strictly prohibit consumption of sugar, sweets to a diabetic patient. They are not against the patient’s taste pleasure, but imposed restrictions for patient’s better health. If such restrictions are not imposed, then the patient will suffer more and may also result in loss of life.

2) Student ought to wear regular school uniform while attending the school, need to reach the school on time, follow all the rules, do required homework, appear for exams. Although, all these restrictions are like burden, students happily follow it. Because, these rules and restrictions are in place for his betterment.

3) Wise spiritual leaders have prohibited some food items with deep wisdom. It’s consumption either results in killing other creatures or spoiling our thoughts. Hence, these control measures should not be seen as restrictions, but safety.

4)
a. Vehicle should be plied from left side of road
b. Signal shouldn’t be over jumped,
c. Vehicle can’t be driven, without valid licence
d. For doing any business, required licence needs to be obtained,
e. Required NOCs from Government agencies ought to be obtained before commencing any construction activity.
f. All above laws are not to harass citizens or make them unhappy but these are required to protect and prosper the citizens and the nation at large.

5) There is possibility of serving stale, adulterated food in the hotels, food carts. Moreover, while preparing it, care is not being taken to save other living beings. This unfairly preparation of food not only kills other creatures, but it is harmful for our health as well.

6) A person stopping us from consuming a tasty but poisonous milkshake is not our enemy but indeed a well-wisher. Similarly, Jainism which prohibits us to carry out such acts is indeed our soul’s true mate!

7) Wise spiritual leaders set the limits for food and drinks in view of happiness in this life and next life too. If one follows these limits, it will help achieve overall well being.

8) Religion is essentially a constitution structured for the upliftment & betterment of each & every soul. The conducts, actions, rituals and even prohibitions conscripted in the religion ultimately helps us attain pure happiness.

Why does Navkar Mantra have nine pads

Answer

There may be two reasons for the same.
(1) There are nine pads for worshipping Yantradhiraj Siddha chakra.
(2) Number nine is considered as intact.
From amongst all the numbers from one to nine, the only number which is intact/integral/ceaseless/integrate is nine.
When any number is multiplied by nine, then the number which we get at the end as an answer is nine
 As for example : 9 x 1 = 9
9 x 2 = 18 ; 1 + 8 = 9
Similarly if three, four, five, etc. are multiplied by nine, then the respective answers for the same would be 27, 36, 45 etc. So, if any number is multiplied with such a number whose digits when added would sum-up to give you an answer of nine, then such a type of multiplication would always lead to an answer whose digits when added would also sum up to nine.
E.g. 27 × 26 = 702 = 9
 Let’s see one another artifice.
Guess any one number. As for E.g. 332. Now sum up the three digits of this number. So, the answer will be eight. Now subtract this number from the original number. So, if we subtract eight from 332, then the answer that we get is 324. Now add these three digits. So, by adding the three digits of three hundred and twenty four, the answer that we get is nine.
Thus if such a type of game would be played with any number, then the final answer that we would receive, would eventually be nine.
 Let’s see one another artifice.
Think of a number. Now, write the number in the reverse order. Now when you will perform subtraction between the original number and the reverse number, you will get nine as the answer.
E.g. Twelve is the original number. Now, if you reverse it, then the number that you get is twenty one. So, by performing subtraction on these two numbers, the answer that we get is nine.
 One last artifice.
From amongst the numbers of 0 to 9 : Add up the smallest and the largest number which would be coming up consecutively from both the ends. You will get nine as the answer.
E.g. 0 + 9 = 9, 1 + 8 = 9, 2 + 7 = 9, 3 + 6 = 9, 4 + 5 = 9.
 In addition to these nine has been used in many places.
Whenever Tirthankar walks, at that time nine gold lotuses are placed them on the pathway below His feet. There are in total nine living as well as non-living elements/essences (Nav Tatva). The total count of Panch Parmesthi’s virtues comes up to 108 and the total of this number is nine.
The baby lives in the mother’s womb for nine months. There are nine main planets orbiting the sky.
Out of the 24 Tirthankar’s, the names of the twelve tirthankaras are made up of four syllables and the names of the twelve tirthankaras consist of five syllables. So, the total summation of number of letters that come up in the names of the twenty-four tirthankaras is 108. If we add up the digits of 108, then it comes up to nine.

How to follow strict rules of Jainism ?

Jainism is as strict as you perceive it to be. Religion is of course very personal. Jain Acharyas say that you have to practice the religion yatha-shakti (as per your capacity) and according to the desh-kal (place & time). One can interpret this to mean that Jainism allows you to walk the path of gradual progression provided your heart is pure and conscious is clear.
